Review: NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil (Milk)

February 5, 2014

I still remember the days when I watched xSparkages make up tutorials, when she’d always say the same thing: ‘… and then we’re going to apply NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk’. Now, a few years later, the whole beauty world is obsessed with this fat pencil – so I had to try it myself. Here’s a review!

The NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils come in a ton of shades, but #604 Milk is by far the most popular one. You can use it to create a white base for your (bright) eyeshadows to really make them pop – which sounds great!

The packaging is simple and a bit boring, with a clear lid. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to sharpen the pencil because it has a plastic coating around the tip, but I tried it and it worked perfectly! Just make sure you have a pencil sharpener with a large hole.

Here’s a swatch (plus some pretty lights in the background), as you can see the pencil is very pigmented and also very matte. I blended the swatch next to it to show you how blendable this pencil is. I like the creamy texture, however if you have oily eyelids, I think this would crease on you. Let’s try it on my own eyes…

Oops, something went wrong with the order… Picture 1 is my naked eye, then comes picture 3 where I applied the pencil to my upper lid, and then picture 2 showing you the result after blending it out. After this I applied a few random eyeshadows (from my Inglot duo and my Naked Palette), to see how vibrant they’d turn out to be. If you look at picture 4, you can tell that they definitely look vibrant!

Here’s a comparison: on my left eye (right on this picture) I applied the same eyeshadows, this time without the Jumbo Eye Pencil as a base. The eyeshadows do look less vibrant without the pencil! Both the golden shade on the lid and the inner corner highlight look way better on top of the white pencil, it really helps to make them stand out.

Of course you can also use this NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil on its own, but I prefer using it as a base for powder eyeshadows. Applying the pencil makes a remarkable difference, especially when using bright or highlighting shades on top. I’m hooked!

Love,

Suzanne

Like I said in the article, I used eyeshadows from my Inglot duo and my Naked Palette. The exact shades from Inglot are 605P and 606P, from the Naked Palette I just used a bunch of golden/brown shadows: half baked, smog, darkhorse, buck, etcetera.
